Career and Technical Education Certificate, Graduate
The Career & Technical Education Graduate Certificate program provides the opportunity to attain an Initial CTE Certification Route 2: Business and Industry. Candidates who complete this program are eligible for jobs at skill centers and secondary education teachers (grades 7-12) in their specialized CTE area in this high need area identified by the State of Washington.

Through this program students will qualify for a Washington State Initial Career and Technical Education certificate to teach in grades 7–12, ONLY within their certificate V-code (Route 2: Business and Industry). Visit the OSPI website for further details.
Admission Requirements
- 6,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience over the past ten years or 2,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience PLUS 4,000 hours teaching.
- Must take the WEST-B or SAT/ACT with reading, writing and math.
- Have earned a baccalaureate degree (either a BA or BS) from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Have earned a grade point average ≥3.0 on a 4-point scale during the final 90 quarter credits (or 60 semester credits) of enrolled coursework.

Students who earn a Graduate Certificate in Career and Technical Education from EWU should be able to:
- value the role of career and technical education within a student’s secondary coursework and career development;
- create a safe learning environment to include classroom, lab settings, and internship sites for all students;
- design student leadership opportunities which are integrated into the CTE curriculum and advances skill proficiency for all students;
- engage all students through a wide range of instructional practices, approaches, methods, and curriculum to include individualized education program materials that supports instruction and learning;
- apply concepts of the instruction and assessment cycle using a variety of tools and practices to plan, implement, and evaluate student learning;
- respond to students, staff, families, industry partners, and community members in a positive and inclusive manner;
- appreciate the role of the advisory committee in maintaining currency of program knowledge and skills.
