Advanced Addiction Counseling and Treatment, Master of Arts (MA)
The Master of Arts in Advanced Addiction Counseling & Treatment is designed to provide current substance use disorder professionals, or other behavioral health providers, advanced theory and practical application of substance use counseling, co-occurring disorder treatment, supervision, and clinical skills. The courses align with the education requirements for the Washington State Department of Health licensed agency affiliated counselor (LAAC). This 48-credit program is fully online, allowing for flexibility for students to pursue a career while maintaining a work/life balance. Full or part-time enrollment options are available. For admissions requirements, review information on the Addiction Studies web page or contact ADST@ewu.edu.

Students who earn an MA in Advanced Addiction Counseling and Treatment from EWU should be able to:
- develop advanced skills in evidence-informed practices with diverse populations;
- apply theoretical models of supervision to resolve ethical dilemmas, enhance clinical practices, and promote team cohesion;
- navigate complex legal and ethical challenges, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations;
- analyze the use of harm reduction strategies to treat substance use and co-occurring disorders.
