Aging Studies Minor
The Aging Studies Minor provides the opportunity to learn about various perspectives in aging, while gaining specialized, in-depth knowledge and skills in working with older adults. Includes gaining specialized, add-on professional knowledge in aging that can enhance a resumé on the job market. This fully online, asynchronous minor is designed to fit a flexible schedule.
In this program, courses cover topics such as:
- Different aspects of aging
- Programs, services, and issues involved in working with older persons
- How different populations experience aging
- U.S. social policies and programs related to aging

Students who earn an Aging Studies Minor from EWU should be able to:
- describe the role of social/healthcare worker in providing services to the older adults, including in end of life care;
- critically examine complex issues impacting the older adults and end of life experiences from diverse/multiple perspectives;
- research, identify, and interpret relevant evidence-based approaches/interventions in working with the older adults;
- demonstrate knowledge of diverse cultural influences on aging and end of life;
- examine the impact of personal frame of reference, including biases on professional work with the older adults and their families/caregivers;
- demonstrate ethical practice standards while working with the older adults.
