Diversity and Inclusion Minor

This minor provides undergraduate students, primary and secondary teachers, social workers, and administrators, as well as business professionals various dimensions of cultural competence in relation to principles of diversity and inclusion. By examining the historical backgrounds, cultural values, and communication styles of five American co-cultures, those who earn this minor will be equipped in areas of privilege and oppression, the sources and impact of prejudice and discrimination, micro-aggressions and unconscious/implicit bias, engaged listening, team building, and servant leadership.

Students who earn a Diversity and Inclusion Minor from EWU should be able to:
  • summarize the psychological impact of racial oppression on African Americans, white Americans, and other racial minorities in the US;
  • synthesize meaningful personal and professional connections and multiple areas of study;
  • demonstrate professional communication with potential community partners and stakeholders while developing a project to address a community or workplace situated problem;
  • continually evaluate perspectives on complex issues leveraging literature from the perspective of multiple disciplines.
