Initial Career and Technical Education Certificate Plan 2A/B: Initial Career and Technical Education Certificate Route 2: Business and Industry Route teacher certification is a short program for teacher candidates who possess 6,000 hours of paid industry work experience in a specific area. The certificate allows teacher candidates to teach only in that area. There are two options within the Plan 2 A/B route. Plan 2A is a clock-hour only program. Plan 2B allows students to earn Post Baccalaureate credit. 

The Plan 2A/B Requirements

• 6,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience over the past ten years.
• Complete EWUs approved Plan 2 Business and Industry Route program.
• Must take the WEST-B or SAT/ACT with reading, writing, and math prior to program completion.

When students complete the Plan 2A/B program, they will qualify for a Washington State Career and Technical Education certificate to teach in grades 7–12, ONLY within their certificate V-code. Visit the OSPI website for further details. This program does not result in a Washington State Residency Teaching Certificate nor does it result in a degree from Eastern Washington University. This program will result upon successful completion in a recommendation for the Initial Career and Technical Education Route 2: Business and Industry Specialized Teaching Certificate.

Clock hours cannot be transferred to EWU credit.

Students who earn a Career and Technical Education Certificate from EWU should be able to:

• value the role of career and technical education within a student’s secondary coursework and career development;
• create a safe learning environment to include classroom, lab settings, and internship sites for all students;
• design student leadership opportunities which are integrated into the CTE curriculum and advances skill proficiency for all students;
• engage all students through a wide range of instructional practices, approaches, methods, and curriculum to include individualized education program materials that supports instruction and learning;
• apply concepts of the instruction and assessment cycle using a variety of tools and practices to plan, implement and evaluate student learning;
• respond to students, staff, families, industry partners and community members in a positive and inclusive manner;
• appreciate the role of the advisory committee in maintaining currency of program knowledge and skills.
