Instrumental Performance Major, Bachelor of Music (BM)
Entrance Requirements: Students must audition on their applied instrument with the appropriate faculty and be accepted into a studio for applied studies. Review the Music website for audition requirements.
In this program leading to the Bachelor of Music, the program provides thoroughly professional and supportive training by artist faculty for the aspiring performance artist and prepares students for careers in performance, teaching, collaborative music making, ensemble experience, and music leadership. The student can also prepare for advanced degree studies in masters and doctoral programs, which may lead to collegiate teaching careers. This course of study presupposes that the student will have a strong background in pre-college musical performance and training, demonstrated in the entrance audition.
Grade Requirement for all majors offered by the Music Department: the minimum acceptable grade for any music course required for graduation (including transferred music courses) is ≥C.

Students who earn a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Performance from EWU should be able to:
- perform music in public on the primary instrument in a manner consistent with professional expectations through successful completion of juries, recitals, and ensemble concerts;
- demonstrate advanced competency in music theory through score analysis and compositional exercises;
- demonstrate advanced music aural skills through dictation and sight singing exercises;
- demonstrate advanced historical knowledge of music through written research reports and exams;
- demonstrate fundamental music keyboard skills through successful completion of a piano proficiency exam;
- demonstrate competency in music conducting through successful completion of practical conducting assignments;
- apply music pedagogical principles to the primary instrument through successful completion of exams, research reports, and teaching demonstrations.
